Art Contest & Exhibit Opening Reception
All Tampa BCOSP Art Contest & Exhibit Opening Receptionay area artists are invited to enter the 2019 ART contest and exhibit. Each year in October Come Out St. Pete hosts a parade and festival in recognition and celebration of National Coming Out day. The main festivities are held the first weekend in October along Central Avenue in the Grand Central District of St. Petersburg.
Prior to the main event in October, Come Out St. Pete promotes local artists with an art contest and exhibit. The winning art is displayed on programs, t-shirts, and other promotional materials for Come Out St. Pete. Additionally, $1,200 total in cash and prizes for winners and honorable mentions is awarded. This is an art contest, not a logo contest, but entries should fit the theme of National Coming Out day.
Works selected as finalists will be exhibited in the main gallery of The Arts Exchange in the Warehouse Arts District of St. Petersburg on the southwest corner of 5th Avenue South, and 22nd Street South during the Month of August, 2019. The opening reception and announcement of prize winners will be Saturday, August 10, 2019.
Adult: any Tampa Bay area emerging or established artist aged 18 or older.
Youth: any Tampa Bay area artist-in-training or aspiring artist up to age 17.
Adult: Cash, check, gift card, or any combination thereof.

How to Enter:
All entries must be submitted as digital file attachments to an email addressed to email@example.com, subject line, “COSP Art Contest Entry.” There is no limit to the number of entries you may submit, and there is no entry fee. Each digital image attached to the email must be clearly labeled with the artist’s name, title of work, dimensions (height x width in inches), medium, and price (example: joe smith-over the rainbow-40×30-oiloncanvas-1200).
Image requirements for entries: JPG files (please try to keep the file size under 5 MB to ensure proper uploading).
The competition is open to artists who live in the Tampa Bay area, which generally means that they must live within 25 miles of either Tampa or St. Petersburg. Only two-dimensional original artwork, conceived and created by the entrant, will be considered. Two-dimensional means that a mixed media cannot exceed an inch in depth. Compositions based on published material or other artists’ work are NOT considered original and are not eligible.
Media includes: Oil, oil pastel, soft pastel, charcoal, graphite, ink, colored pencil, watercolor, casein, gouache, acrylic, digital art (only if it is completely original and not derived and then manipulated from someone else’s photo), mixed media (all water media or oil based media); silver or other metal point, collage; mixed media collage; handmade paper; wax and other crayons on paper or board; printmaking (etching, mezzotint, lithography, woodcut, monotype, mono print, aquatint); and, two dimensional non-sculptural stained glass. Photography, with the exception of minor elements incorporated in a collage, will not be considered. Sculpture will not be considered.
Deadlines and Requirements:
The deadline for entry is Friday, July 12, 2019 at 6:00 PM. All entries must be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by that deadline. Entries received after the deadline will not be accepted.
Those selected as finalists must deliver or arrange to have their art delivered to The Arts Exchange(southwest corner of 5th Avenue South and 22nd Street South in St. Petersburg) between noon and 5 PM on Friday, August 2, 2019.Parking is behind Dazzio’s. Absolutely no late deliveries will be accepted. Unsold work must be picked up from the gallery on Saturday, August 31, 2019 between the hours of noon and 5 PM.
All finalists will be expected to have the following attached to the backs of their art:
1. Artist’s name
2. Artist’s contact information (i.e., phone, email, physical address)
3. Title of work
5. Dimensions in inches (height x width)
By entering this contest, artists agree that their work may be used for promotional purposes for the exhibit, The Arts Exchange, The Warehouse Arts District, and Come Out St. Pete.
The artists also agree that a commission of 40% of the sale of any work of art will go to The Arts Exchange and/or Come Out St. Pete.
Judging and Notification:
Finalists will be selected and notified by July 19, 2019. Those not selected as finalists will not be notified. Winners will be announced at 6:00 PM during the opening reception on August 10, 2019.
